Droning on – The Castellum drone has taken to the skies in The Cotswolds in recent weeks. This site, in stunning countryside close to Cirencester, is very much a work in progress. Since this shot was taken, the roof is on, the timber frame barn to the left of the shot is up and waiting for its roof covering, and the third barn (closest to the road) has achieved planning permission to covert it to garaging with a two bedroom flat above. It’s all go!
Summer staff round-up ~ Castellum would like to welcome into the fold the following new members of staff:
Dan Bergin – Quantity Surveyor. Dan re-joins us having taken time out travelling. Before his time with Castellum, Dan worked as a QS for one the UKs largest main contractors, Galliford Try.
Mark Williams – Procurement Manager. Mark has been dealing with the commerical and procurement aspects of our Construction Management project in Chelsea. Mark joins us from Beck Interiors, where he was previously an Estimator.
Ian Shoesmith – Commercial Manager. Having recently worked with Spink Property for several years, Ian is well acquainted with the high-end residential market. Ian will head-up commerical operations alongside the senior management team.

Castellum are delighted to have been appointed to do some refurbishment works to the Bishop of Hereford’s residence in the heart of this historic city.
As part of the Castellum Cotswold’s new office development in central Cirencester, permission was obtained to convert an existing commercial building into a series of one and two bedroom apartments whilst retaining completely modernised office space to the ground floor.
The works involved the removal of the roof structure, the addition of a second floor and a side extension which forms a two bedroom Maisonette. Alongside a completely new M&E system, new aluminium windows, an updated external façade and an internal fit out to a high specification, we have retained valuable town centre parking. The top floor loft style penthouse apartment is of particular note and all of the new accommodation is modern, light and completed to a particularly high standard.
The Cotswold team are delighted to have moved in to our superb new offices.
18th May ’18 ~ Castellum’s own Cobham development picks up a highly commended award at the 2018 Evening Standard New Homes Awards. This is the second year in a row Castellum have scooped an awarded at the prestiguous construction industry event. Ben and Nathan Haskins (Construction Director and Senior Contracts Manager respectively) received the award at The Dorchester Hotel in Mayfair.
14th May ’18 ~ Castellum have been appointed as Construction Managers for the refurbishment and full fit-out of nine luxury apartments close to Sloane Squane, Chelsea. Trade contractor appointments begin immediately, with works scheduled for a 52 week programme.
5th March ’18 ~ Castellum Cotswolds are delighted to be working alongside Savills on the conversion of a series of farm buildings just outside Worcester on behalf of Merton College Oxford.

9th February ‘18 ~ Castellum hand over our 11,500 sq/ft client build in Burwood Park, Surrey. Well done to the team on gaining Practical Completion on Programme.
16th November ’17 ~ The RC frame at our client-direct project on Coombe Hill, Kingston, is now complete. We are due to erect external scaffolding and begin the roof canopies and masonry next week.
9th October ’17 ~ Works begin on Phase 3 of a project in Finchampstead for an existing client. Castellum had previously undertaken significant extensions and refurbishments to this classic brick-painted Edwardian country house and are due to complete the next phase in the Spring of 2018.
15th September ’17 ~ The exposed roof beams at The Old Grain Store, Beacon Farm, have now been sandblasted and are looking fabulous. The roof is on and the windows on the way. Works are moving a pace and the life is being breathed back into this beautiful old Cotswold Barn. It is on target for completion in Spring 2018.
11th September ’17 ~ Castellum has begun work this morning on an exciting new house in the heart of historic Tetbury. This is a design and build contract, on behalf of private clients with whom we have worked before. When finished, this will be a contemporary home of 4,000 sq ft across two floors with a separate garage block – it is a 12 month project and we will provide regular updates.
6th September ’17 ~ The scaffold has been struck on our 11,500 sq/ft client build in Burwood Park, Surrey. Castellum took over the project earlier this year following the sad demise of a local development company. External works are underway this week and plastering internally is nearing completion. When finished, the three-storey house will comprise of a large open-plan kitchen area, swimming pool block, cinema room, ‘Granny’ annexe, and landscaped gardens.
23rd August ’17 ~ We are delighted to announce that our recently completed project in South Kensington, Albert Court, has been nominated for best Interior Design Scheme – UK in the International Design & Architecture Awards 2017.
11th August ’17 ~ The hoarding has gone up and works are underway at Southway House, soon to be renamed Castellum House, in Cirencester. We have acquired the building and are creating three new flats and a maisonette on the site and we will be retaining the ground floor as new office space for our expanding Cotswold team.
1st August ’17 ~ Works are now underway in the Cotswolds to create another fabulous home, close to Cirencester. Castellum have acquired an old Cotswold stone barn with planning permission to create a contemporary property with a separate annexe, set in three acres of land. Watch this space…
28th July ’17 ~ Front facade retained and groundworks coming along nicely at our project in Wimbledon Village. Still a long way to go, but happy to say we’re currently on programme.
19th July ’17 ~ We are very pleased to have been appointed as main contractor for a contemporary private residential project on the Coombe Hill estate, Kingston-Upon-Thames. Work is due to begin in October ’17, and includes an 8,000 sq ft house, 1,000 sq ft pool pavilion, and associated external works.
7th June ’17 ~ Castellum are delighted to announce the launch of ‘The Printworks’ – A new build development of six mews houses in the heart of Cheltenham.
19th May ’17 ~ The Castellum team were absolutely thrilled to have been Highly Commended and given the Category Winner for building the Best House outside of London at the prestigious London Evening Standard Property Awards.
The awards were held in The Ballroom at The Dorchester on Park Lane last Friday, with around 500 industry people in attendance. With so many of the large house builders and well known names in the room, Ben Jones and Chris Wingrove, joint partners of Castellum, were delighted to be there to collect their award in person.
Introduced by the new Editor of The London Evening Standard, George Osborne, the event was hosted by comedian Romesh Ranganathan with the awards being presented by Team GB Hockey Star Kate Richardson Welsh.
Badgers Brook, the Surrey house behind the award, is a three storey new build family home which combines classic George face brickwork with state-of-the-art internal features and luxurious accommodation that extends to 12,500 sq ft.
In conjunction with the client and a leading interior designer, Castellum have created a stylish modern interior, tailored to the client’s individual taste and needs. The pool wing features a 12 metre long, 1.6 metre deep pool, Jacuzzi and steam room.

17th May ’17 ~ Having exchanged contracts in March, we look forward to works commencing at Beacon Farm near Cirencester. Castellum has purchased the site and will re-develop the barns to create a stunning five bedroom home sitting in nearly three acres. Completion due Spring 2018.
15th May ’17 ~ Castellum announce new office purchase for The Cotswolds. Sited in the centre of Cirencester, Castellum House is due for completion in early 2018 and will provide both office space and a showcase for Castellum’s growing portfolio. Three luxury apartments will also be developed as part of the scheme.

Jason Leonard OBE is an English former rugby union player and has been the president of the Rugby Football Union since 2015. Leonard was a prop forward who won 114 caps for England and five for the British and Irish Lions.
1st May ’17 ~ Castellum are delighted to begin works on Nazareth House in Cheltenham. Employed directly by The Sister’s Of Nazareth, works will include the remodelling and refurbishment of one residential wing in the care home.
28th April ’17 ~ Castellum has been short-listed for the Evening Standard New Homes Award 2017 for Best Family Home. Winners are to be announced at The Dorchester Hotel in Mayfair on 19th May 2017. The two Company Directors and Co-owners, Chris Wingrove and Ben Jones, will be in attendance.
14th April ’17 ~ Practical Completion has been achieved on Castellum’s Albert Court project in South Kensington, London.
29th March ’17 ~ We are pleased to announce that Rob Brannan has been promoted to the position of Contracts Director. Rob will have overarching responsibility for our contracts, encompassing all operational & commercial activity.
10th February ’17 ~ The Castellum team were delighted to hand over Clare House to happy clients (the CGI features on the front of our website). The 11,500 square-foot contemporary Design & Build project was a year and a half in the making and was ably managed by Ben Haskins (Construction Manager), assited by Adam Boyd (Site Manager). We wish our clients a long and happy ownership.
2nd February ’17 ~ A great start to the New Year! Castellum has been awarded the contract to construct a 13,500 square-foot family home in Wimbledon for a private client. The project involves the retention of the existing front facade, CFA piling, a basement, and a swimming pool building linked to the main house via an underground passage. Thanks to all involved in securing what will be a challenging but exciting project.
20th December ’16 ~ Following the demise of a local development company, Castellum has been awarded the contract to complete a partially constructed home in Oxshott. The project, for a private client, is due for completion in December 2017.
24th October ’16 ~ We are pleased to welcome to the Surrey commercial team Dan Bergin who takes on the role of Assistant Quantity Surveyor. Dan recently completed a BSc (Hons) degree in Quantity Surveying, studying part-time, and will help to bolster our expanding Surrey business.
22nd August ’16 ~ Construction work has begun on a substantial extension for an established client in Cobham, Surrey. Castellum had previously undertaken an extremely high-end refurbishment and fit-out of an apartment in Mount Street, London, and we are pleased to offer our services once again and maintain our mutually beneficial relationship.
2th August ’16 ~ Construction work has begun on yet another development in the Cotswolds. Castellum are to build five new town houses and refurbish a sixth in the centre of Cheltenham.
29th July ’16 ~ Badgers Brook, a brick-built Georgian new build home, has been completed and handed over to a happy client. Well done to our Surrey team for getting this ‘over the line’ and maintaining the expected high standards throughout the project. Special thanks go to Nathan Haskins, Project Manager, for basing himself fulltime on site during the extremely busy final stages of the handover.

27th May ’16 ~ We are proud to announce that we have completed and sold the beautiful Stonelea development near Cirencester. Stonelea was comprehensively refurbished and extended following fire damage. Well done to our Cotswolds team for delivering yet another successful project.
16th May ’16 ~ Castellum has successfully been awarded ‘Industry Partner’ membership of the British Institute of Interior Design (BIID). We look forward to strengthening our existing relationships with the interior design practices we have worked with thus far and establishing new bonds in the near future.
4th Jan ’16 ~ An excellent start to the New Year! Castellum has been commissioned by Hill House Interiors of Weybridge, on behalf of a private client, to undertake the full yet sympathetic internal refurbishment of a prestigious 5,500 square-foot Grade II listed duplex apartment in South Kensington, London. The project, which is within a stone’s throw of the Royal Albert Hall, includes the careful introduction of structural steel frames; extensive re-modeling; plumbing, air-conditioning, electrical, lighting, and audio visual installations; new stone and carpeted flooring throughout; new staircases, woodwork and cabinetry; applied plaster mouldings and full paint and wallpaper redecoration.
22nd Dec ’15 ~ Work has recently begun on Castellum’s latest development project. The new build home in Cobham, Surrey, has been designed by an award-winning architect and is an amalgam of contemporary styling and features and modern and traditional materials, including linear bricks, zinc roofing, cedar cladding, and a significant amount of glass.
28th Oct ’15 ~ Castellum would like to welcome on-board Robert Brannan, who has taken up the position of Senior Quantity Surveyor. Rob has spent the last six years working as a freelance Project Manager and Cost Consultant in London and the Home Counties. Prior to being self-employed, Rob worked for a small number of high-end construction companies, beginning his career back in 1999 as a Quantity Surveyor with Basingstoke based contractor R. W. Armstrong & Sons Limited.
